Town Violations

Holliston Violating its own Flag Policy

Since the new flag policy has gone into effect, the town of Holliston has violated it at least twice in order to fly American Legion, VFW, and Irish flags —

The Holliston Flag Policy, initially approved in January, 2024, states in part:

"All Town-owned flag poles and buildings are restricted to the United States, POW/MIA, State and Town flags, with the exception of the flag pole located at Blair Square (Corner of Central Street and Railroad Street, specifically) for which the Select Board may publish an annual calendar with a proposed schedule for the flying of flags."

In apparent violation of its own Flag Policy, the Town of Holliston displayed St. Patrick’s day bunting on the Holliston Town Hall in March 2024.

The VFW Flag and the American Legion Flag continue to be displayed at the Iraq & Afghanistan War Memorial, one of the locations specifically listed in the Flag Policy as being limited to the the United States, POW/MIA, State and Town flags.  This is another apparent violation of the policy.
